Delano South Fork Crow River Flooding Updates

River Gauge: National Weather Service - South Fork Crow River Gauge

Updates (most recent listed first):

Monday - 7/8/24: The river is continuing to recede to normal levels. The floodwalls will be removed on Tuesday, July 9. This post will no longer be updated. For any questions about flooding, please contact City Hall.

Monday - 6/26/24 at 9:00 AM: The Litfin Nature Area archery walk-through course is temporarily closed due to flooding. The front practice ranges are still open.

Tuesday - 6/25/24 at 8:30 AM: The bridge on Bridge Ave is still open to traffic. 90th St SE will remain closed due to flooding until the river recedes. According to the National Water River Gauge, the river measured in around 19.40 ft. yesterday and is currently forecasted to recede in the coming weeks. This is subject to change, and staff will continue to closely monitor river levels and check pumps as needed.

Friday - 6/21/24 at 10:30 AM: Staff will continue to monitor river levels over the weekend. Updates will be posted as needed on our website and social media accounts.

Thursday - 6/20/24 at 8:15 AM: Water level is at the point of needing to close 90th St. Public Works staff have set-up barricades on either side of the closure. Please use alternative routes.

Tuesday - 6/18/24 at 7 AM: Public works is setting up portions of the floodwall outside of Bridge Avenue to reduce response time in case of emergency. The bridge will remain open unless closure is deemed necessary.

Monday - 6/17/24: Public Works staff has begun to prepare for potential flooding in Delano. Storm sewer valves have been closed to prevent the river water from backing into the storm system and pumps have been placed to pump collected rainwater back into the river. Staff will continue to monitor the water levels and take additional response steps as necessary. Please respect and use caution near the river and check back periodically for further updates. Thank you!

Safety Reminder

With the high river levels, please be careful and respect the force of the river. Keep a safe distance from the edge and avoid roads marked off by city crews and flood protection equipment. 6 inches of fast-moving water can knock over and carry away an adult. 12 inches of fast-moving water can carry away a small car. 18-24 inches can carry away most large SUVs, vans, and trucks. Never drive around barricades, even if the water has receded, as the ground may be unstable.
