All work requiring a permit is subject to inspection. The Minnesota State Building Code specifies the points at which mandatory inspections are required. Additional inspections may be required to verify code compliance.
It is the permit holder's responsibility to call the Building Inspection Department to schedule inspections and to provide ready access to the work. If the inspector must get into a home, the contractor or homeowner must be present. Inspectors will not enter homes unescorted or if only minors are present.
Inspections must be scheduled in advance. Two business days advanced notice is typically required.
An inspection record card is provided to each permit applicant at the time of permit issuance. This card should identify all inspections required for that permit. No work may be covered unless the record card has been signed by the inspector. Record cards must be available on the job site. Work that is covered prior to inspection may be required to be exposed.
