Cable Channel 180
As part of the franchise agreement that the City of Delano has with the local cable television company, Charter Communications Inc., the franchise fees collected off each billing invoice from each customer is identified as to the jurisdiction in which the fees were generated. The SWC4, which is the regulatory body comprised of one member from each of the 13 member cities, uses these franchise fees to purchase the equipment necessary to produce the live and delayed broadcast of the City Official meetings.
Currently, the City of Delano has five playback decks in which to re-broadcast past meeting events. The City Council, Delano Water, Light, and Power Commission, and the Delano Planning Commission are broadcast live on their respective meeting dates and time and have a rotating schedule for playback schedule for delayed broadcast.
The City Council meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. The Delano Water, Light, and Power Commission meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The Delano Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Each of these meeting dates is subject to change due to legal holidays.
Special events of interest are broadcast live, if possible and Wednesdays are reserved for the delayed broadcast thereof. To date, the City has replayed the round table forum held by MEADA, the State of the City Address, the General Federated Woman's Club's 1965 Flood Production and the History of Delano
Between each of the public meeting broadcasts are rolling screens for information listing the names of various departments and phone numbers, upcoming events of activity for the City, Senior Citizen Center, Library, and local events, public service announcements, public hearing and informational meetings, and live and play back schedules. These screens are updated on a routine basis. Since this Channel is authorized by the franchise agreement and the Cable Commission, only City approved announcements and events may be placed on the channel. Civic organizations, non-governmental, and religious functions may contact Charter Communications directly for placement on the public access stations of channel 8, 13, 15, and 20.
As part of a recent upgrade in equipment, the City of Delano has recently obtained a camcorder to allow city staff to broadcast additional events that occur off site (those events not held within the Council Chambers). Upon the installation of the remainder of equipment necessary to edit and transfer the event unto compatible broadcast media, special City governmental programs will be appearing on Channel 12. Additional information regarding additional programming events will be made available shortly. Please stay tune to the rolling screen in between the meeting events and this site for updates in broad casted programs.
