A focus in 2023 for the Park and Recreation Commission was advancing the concept of pocket parks downtown to add interesting spaces for public gathering and activity. One project, which involved substantial discussion and research by Commission members, involves enhancing Riverfront Park, specifically south of Bridge Avenue.
The Commission recommended improving the concrete area across from the Post Office. The improvements would involve approximately $50,000 of equipment to create a shaded public gathering and interaction space. Landscape Structures has provided a quote for a 20’ x 76’ cantilever shade structure to cover most of the concrete seating area.
Members of the Commission are researching a variety of seating options that would include lounging, conversation seating, picnic tables, and casual swings. The objective would be to make this gathering place for people to enjoy the riverfront and further encourage downtown Delano as a gathering space.
